The Palestine Securities Exchange (PSE) was incorporated as a private limited liability company in 1995. Its major shareholders include Palestine Development & Investment Company (PADICO) and SAMED. The PSE was the number one performing Arab stock exchange in 1999.

The PSE commenced official trading activities in February 1997. It is committed to serving as an efficient, modern, and well-regulated exchange in order to facilitate and maximize the flow of long-term investment capital into the Palestinian economy. The PSE is a member of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges and a member of the Union of Arab Stock Exchanges and Securities Commissions. It is also a member of the Arab Monetary Fund, as well as the International Federation of Stock Exchanges.

Currently, Thirty-eight shareholding companies are listed on the Exchange. The companies span a wide range of sectors including pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, financial services, investments, and tourism. Presently pending before the Palestinian Legislative Council is the Securities Law, which upon adoption, is expected to instill greater confidence in the Securities Exchange.

The PSE acts as an intermediary between Palestinians living abroad and in Palestine, facilitating the repatriation of long-term investment capital into the economy.

The PSE is a self-regulating organization, charged with enforcing rules and regulations relating to listing requirements, trading, settlement and clearing and the activities of the brokerage securities firms. At present, the Ministry of Finance is the regulator.
